Which Sample File Format Should You Use?
Compare PDF, TXT, CSV, JSON, XML, HTML, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX and ZIP sample files for development and QA testing.
Documents and presentations
Choose PDF when testing document previews, print rendering or file downloads. Use DOCX for editable Word documents and PPTX for presentation import or preview workflows.
Spreadsheets and structured data
Choose CSV for simple tabular import tests and XLSX for workbook-oriented spreadsheet features. JSON is well suited to API and nested-data parsing, while XML tests markup-based interchange formats.
Text, web pages and archives
TXT is useful for encoding and plain-text processing. HTML can test markup previews or sanitization. ZIP is appropriate for archive uploads, extraction and compression workflows.
Match the file to the test
A file's extension and byte size do not prove that it contains a realistic or fully featured document. For compatibility testing, inspect the contents and include edge cases such as Unicode text, multiple sheets or embedded media as needed.
